The SMART Goal Setting Technique is a system that helps people set goals and make plans to reach them. The SMART Goal Setting Technique uses four different levels of goal setting and planning to help people set goals: Level 1 – A simple, specific goal that is not “too” difficult to achieve. Level 2 – A more complex, long-term, overall goal with subgoals that may include a timeline. Level 3 – An intermediate- term goal with sub-goals that may include a timeline. Level 4 – A short-term, often temporary, goal with no intermediate steps.
